I used to dislike winter, but I decided that since I couldn\u2019t avoid it forever, I would find activities to make winter in the city more enjoyable, cozy, and fun. I hope you\u2019ll find inspiration here for spending a lovely winter weekend in Krak\u00f3w!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winter in Krak\u00f3w is a time when the city transforms. While summer festivals give way to cooler, longer evenings, Krak\u00f3w still buzzes with life. Winter attractions in Krak\u00f3w let you enjoy its unique atmosphere, even beyond the festive season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From outdoor ice rinks to warming drinks in cozy cafes, to evenings filled with concerts and theater performances\u2014winter in Krak\u00f3w is also the perfect time to explore its restaurants and museums, which add a touch of warmth and charm to the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PRACTICE YOUR SPINS AT THE ICE RINK IN JORDAN PARK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Krak\u00f3w boasts the largest open-air ice rink in Poland! The rink features one large surface and an amazing long ice alley where you can feel like you\u2019re in a movie, gliding between trees. SAVOR HOT TEA AT CAMELOT CAFE <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of my favorite cozy cafes for a frosty day. This small venue is tucked away in an old corner tenement house in Zau\u0142ek Niewiernego Tomasza, just around the corner from Krak\u00f3w\u2019s Main Square. The warmth of candles, charming retro decor, wooden furniture, and mementos create a space so relaxing and cozy that you won\u2019t want to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n

VISIT THE THEATER<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Winter attractions in Krak\u00f3w aren\u2019t limited to the Christmas market! Performances, concerts, and hundreds of cultural events keep the city alive, even in the heart of winter, pulsating with artistic energy and a unique atmosphere. While summer fills the city with open-air festivals, in winter, all that magical energy moves indoors to theaters, concert halls, museums, and independent cinemas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I personally love visiting the S\u0142owacki and Stary theaters, but I also recommend checking out Bagatela, STU, Barakah, and Ludowy theaters. Many winter performances and concerts also take place at the Philharmonic, ICE Krak\u00f3w, and Tauron Arena. <\/p>\n\n\n

ENJOY HOT CHOCOLATE AT NOWA PROWINCJA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A classic spot on Krak\u00f3w\u2019s map. Since the Faculty of Polish Studies is just around the corner, I used to visit daily during my university years. Today, this place fills me with pleasant, nostalgic feelings. This cozy, atmospheric caf\u00e9 always smells of homemade soup of the day. Be sure to stop by for their famous hot chocolate! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EXPLORE THE STAINED GLASS MUSEUM<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Zakocha\u0142am si\u0119 w tym roku w witra\u017cach, nie tylko tych Wyspia\u0144skiego, ale tak\u017ce tych ukrytych w krakowskich kamienicach (w Muzeum mo\u017cecie za par\u0119 z\u0142otych kupi\u0107 mapk\u0119, kt\u00f3ra poprowadzi was tras\u0105 najpi\u0119kniejszych witra\u017cy w centrum Krakowa). Pracownia i Muzeum Witra\u017cu to najpi\u0119kniejsze i najbardziej wyj\u0105tkowe muzem w Krakowie. To przede wszystkim wci\u0105\u017c dzia\u0142aj\u0105ca pracownia witra\u017cu (za\u0142o\u017cona w 1902 roku!), w kt\u00f3rej mo\u017cna podejrze\u0107, jak powstaj\u0105 przepi\u0119kne i nierzadko ogromne ozdobne szk\u0142a, a nawet wzi\u0105\u0107 udzia\u0142 w warsztatach i stworzy\u0107 sw\u00f3j w\u0142asny witra\u017c w miejscu, w kt\u00f3rym tworzyli je mi\u0119dzy innymi J\u00f3zef Mehoffer czy Stefan Matejko. Poza tym Galeria M\u0142odopolskich Mistrz\u00f3w Witra\u017cu to jedyne miejsce w Polsce, gdzie mo\u017cna podziwia\u0107 witra\u017cowe dzie\u0142a czterech wybitnych artyst\u00f3w pocz\u0105tku XX wieku: Wyspia\u0144skiego, Mehoffera, Jastrz\u0119bowskiego i Stefana Matejki (bratanka Jana). Ciekawostka: jednym z za\u0142o\u017cycieli pracowni by\u0142 Stanis\u0142aw Gabriel \u017bele\u0144ski, brat pisarza Tadeusza Boya \u017bele\u0144skiego. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reservations are required in advance, and entry to the workshop is only possible with a guided tour (available in Polish or English). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

WARM UP WITH FRENCH ONION SOUP AT ZAK\u0141ADKA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The best soup in town! The French restaurant Zak\u0142adka has maintained its high standard for many years. In the summer, it\u2019s worth sitting at one of the outdoor tables, but in winter, warm yourself up with their hot caramelized onion soup topped with melted, gooey cheese on a baguette crouton. The interior is cozy and unpretentious, exuding the charm of a French bistro with character.<\/p>\n\n\n

TRY MULLED WINE AT DZIKIE WINO<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As someone who belongs to the small group of people who don\u2019t like red wine or cinnamon, the mulled wines served at the Christmas market aren\u2019t for me (though this winter, one stall offered white mulled wine). However, I discovered that at Dzikie Wino (a spot I highly recommend for social gatherings both in winter and summer) on Krak\u00f3w\u2019s Main Square, they serve not only red mulled wine but also white! It\u2019s delicious and perfect for anyone who enjoys lighter flavors without the intense cinnamon and clove aromas. Plus, it\u2019s lovely to take a moment to hide away in the old, atmospheric courtyard and escape the noise and hustle of Krak\u00f3w\u2019s busy market square. <\/p>\n\n\n

JOIN A WORKSHOP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Krak\u00f3w offers a variety of interesting workshops, from the mentioned Stained Glass Museum, where you can learn the art of stained glass and create your first masterpiece, to culinary classes, ceramics, handicrafts, and floristry. Last winter, I attended a pasta masterclass workshop where I made delicious ravioli and spent a delightful January evening. I wholeheartedly recommend such activities for winter and as a way to kick off the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FOR THE BRAVE: TAKE A WALK <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the brave souls who aren\u2019t deterred by frost and wind biting at your cheeks, I recommend a walk along the Vistula River. The snow-covered boulevards look stunning, and in the quiet winter afternoons, the area is usually deserted, making it perfect if you\u2019re seeking peace and quiet. For those less adventurous and fond of the classics, I suggest a stroll around Krak\u00f3w\u2019s Main Square, adorned with a beautiful Christmas tree and festive decorations.
